Dr Covert was born in Chicago and loves all the Chicago sports teams. He moved to Iowa at age 8 and went to college in Kansas and graduate school at ISU in Ames. He went to medical school on an Army scholarship here in Des Moines at what is now Des Moines University. He did an internship in Detroit, then served in the Big Red One at Ft Riley KS for 2 years before doing his Internal Medicine residency at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Denver CO. He was an attending physician with the 101st Airborne Screaming’ Eagles at Ft Campbell KY and served in Desert Storm in 1990. He has practiced Internal Medicine in Des Moines since 1992.
He has been working in Opioid Treatment Facilities (OTP) since 2006. He opened Covert Action on 11/13/16. He has had treated over 4200 opioid-dependent patients.
He loves basketball, golf, table tennis and pickleball. He is a movie and music fanatic.
He lives in Clive with his wife Barbara and has a son in town and daughters in Denver and San Francisco. His 3rd granddaughter is due early June 2023.
